If like me you woke up one day and realized that your Whatsapp app is looking a little different then you are not alone. The app has a bit more neon green all over the place, the search bar looks a little bigger, and…..does it read “Ask Meta AI or Search”? That is so fascinating. What about that colored ring just above the contact button?
Well, that is Meta’s (formerly Facebook) new move into the ongoing AI battle. Meta Ai which is Meta’s large language model AI has been integrated into all of Meta’s platforms such as WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger. The idea as said by Meta founder and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg is for Meta AI to be “the most intelligent AI assistant that people can freely use across the world,”.
Meta AI’s integration into these apps allows users to interact with the AI receiving real-time search results from Google and Bing (it switches between the two as necessary), and generate high-resolution images and GIFS per the user’s commands.
To interact with Meta AI in chat, type ‘@’ and Meta AI will be the first to pop up (in a group chat) and the only one in a private chat. You can then proceed to ask it what you want. Remember that your responses will be affected by how well-structured your question/prompt is. Also as a user do well to check the validity of the responses you receive because AI responses can be wrong (a phenomenon called AI Hallucination).
Ultimately this is a great move by Meta, putting AI in the hands of many users across all its platforms with so much ease and simplicity. Not only will Meta fast-track the growth of its AI through billions of users interacting with it thereby giving it more data to grow, but making it free on such a large scale means Meta AI will become the default AI choice for many users.
